This athame, perfect for traditional witchcraft, ceremonial high magick and wicca was crafted from a single piece brass bar. 7 inches in total length, of which the blade is 3.5 inches.
Paul first started making this short athame with a simple chevron tip years ago, typically with a blackthorn handle. It quickly became a favorite and he has made at least 50 of them by now... Not everyone has big hands or wants a huge athame. Therefore this is a great choice for small hands and altars!
The handle is REAL hand gathered and carved English Blackthorn cut upon the high moors of Cornwall in the Celtic south west! Sacred to the queen of the fey it is said to be unwise to fall asleep under a blackthorn tree lest you want to be carried away by faeries! It has an evil reputation. The thorns are awful and cause blisters that take ages to heal. Used in baneful magick and cursing and blasting. If you have big rats to deal with then this is your athame! Blackthorn is also sacred to Saturn and there good for needed change. The brass blade is solar and will balance out the baneful handle, resulting in a ritual tool for both light and dark spell craft!
Paul cuts all the wood himself. He asks and blesses the tree first and assures the tree that it’s gift will be used to create beautiful heirloom ritual tools. The tree is cut with sharp tree snips to ensure the tree is not damaged and will continue to thrive. After a year or more of seasoning, Paul hand carves the handles himself and sands them to a fine furniture finish of 400 grit. The handle is then oiled with our Luna Ignis anointing oils to make the grain pop and to protect the wood.
Unique hand made heirloom quality athame by our pagan blacksmith. Paul is a practitioner of traditional witchcraft and ceremonial magick.
Brass is sacred to The Sun and so is great for spells and ritual work for success, strength, prosperity, and health.
In Ceremonial magick and some witchcraft traditions the dagger or athame represents the element of air and therefore used to control, banish, or destroy.
In some Wicca traditions the athame represents the element of fire and is perfect for a weapon of manifestation and circle casting.
