Ra was the king of the Egyptian deities and the father of creation. He was the sun god of ancient Egypt and one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon. Ra's power is the power of the physical sun, therefore he was believed to be the creator of life as the Egyptians live in an agricultural society, where sunlight and water are crucial to their survival. Although Ra possessed many forms, he is often portrayed as a falcon and shares his features with the sky god Horus. Throughout ancient Egyptian history, there exist times when Ra merged with other notable Egyptian deities, with Amun he's called Amun-Ra, and with Horus, he's called Ra-Horakhty.
