This book contains 3 of the most famous works of the Flemish mystic Jan van Ruysbroek. He was one of the founders of Dutch literature, also known as Doctor ecstaticus. His mysticism, inherited by Dionysius the Areopagite, was expressed, on the one hand, in the condemnation of church rituals and hypocrisy, on the other hand, in the internal structure of the monastery, like the brotherhood of apostolic times. Ruysbroek's works are written partly in Latin and partly in Middle Dutch, but in this book they are fully translated into English. Each of the following works emphasizes the importance of the contemplative ascetic life and Christian love.
