The Hecate Deipnon Esbat Ritual PART 2 BLOG

A Hecate deipnon a monthly ancient pagan Greek ritual meal and festival dedicated to the goddess Hekate and the dead, celebrated on the dark moon by witches and modern pagans. It is a ritual of devotion, purification and offering to Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, keeper of the keeps and the sacred gates!

The ritual was too long for our blog tool... So we split it in two and THIS IS PART 2!!! Enjoy witches! Use this ritual as a basis of your own pagan witchcraft magick rituals or use it as written! The Great Rite:

(HPS fills the cup, genuflects, and offers it to HP, who genuflects, holds athame in both hands and places point in cup)

HPS: "As the Athame is to the male, so the cup is to the female, and conjoined they bring forth blessedness."

Cakes and Wine Ceremony:

(HPS holds the chalice of wine in the air)

HPS: "Great Hekate, Pandōteira, All-Giver, we offer you this wine, the fruit of the vine, as a symbol of life, love, and abundance. Bless this libation, that it may nourish both body and spirit."

(HPS pours a small amount of wine onto the earth or into a bowl)

HPS: "We give thanks for the joy of the earth, all that sustains us."

(HPS blesses the wine by drawing aether symbol over it, then raises the chalice)

HPS: "To Hekate!"

All: "To Hekate!"

(HP points athame to the cake)

HP: "Great Hermes, Lord of the Threshold, we offer you this cake, the bounty of the earth, as a symbol of strength, growth, and nourishment. Bless this offering, that it may bring us vitality and joy."

(HP breaks off a piece and places it on the earth or in a bowl)

HP: "We give thanks for the life of the sun, and all that sustains us."

(HP blesses the cake by drawing aether symbol over it, then raises the cake)

HP: "To the God!"

All: "To the God!"

(HPS/HP/CM share the wine and cake, then pass it around to all present. As each person takes the wine and cake, they say a blessing or word of thanks, may also just touch the dish & cup instead of tasting.)

HPS/HP/CM: "May you never hunger, may you never thirst. Blessed be."

Participants: "Blessed be."

(Once everyone has partaken)

HPS: "With gratitude in our hearts, we have shared in the blessings of Life Universal, and of Hekate who holds the keys to all the cosmos. May we always remember the abundance that surrounds us, and may we honor the sacred within ourselves and each other."

Grounding and Centering:

Both: "May we have the knowledge, will, and audacity to see magick done, and the patience to sit with it in silence." (Makes the sign of silence)

“Please, take a moment to ground yourselves and take in the energy of the ritual we have done this evening.”

Closing the Ritual Space:

Farewell to Hekate:

HPS (Einalia — last to speak to Her, first to have invoked Her): "Hekate — Einalia, Chthonia, Nykteria, Triodítis, Kleidoukhos — Lady of the Sea and the Earth, Queen of the Night, Keeper of the Keys — we thank you for your presence at this table. Your supper is prepared. Walk with us to the threshold."

HP (Dadoukhos): "Hekate — Phosphoros, Dadoukhos, Lampadios, Pyrphoros — Light-Bringer, Torch-Bearer — we thank you for the light you carried into our darkness. En Erebos, Phos."(In darkness, there is light)

All: "Hail and farewell, and hail again."

Release of the Guardians of the Quarters:

(draw alchemical symbol with athame/wand)

HPS/HP alternating widdershins from north: "(Crow, Serpent, Hound, Moth) of the (North, West, South, East), thank you for your presence and the blessings you have given. Stay if you will, go if you must, we bid thee hail and farewell."

Opening the Circle:

The circle is opened by a CM reversing the casting process with the athame, three times widdershins in silence. Then CM rings the bell nine times, 3-3-3.

The Procession to the Crossroads:

(This is the final, essential act of the Deipnon — unique to this ritual and not part of the standard Esbat.)

HP: "The circle is open, but never broken." All: "Merry meet, and merry part, and merry meet again!"

HPS: "Now we carry Hekate's Supper to the crossroads."

(The Deipnon platter and the vessel of sweepings/releases are carried by HPS and HP — or designated members — to a pre-selected three-way crossroads, intersection, or the end of the driveway/path. The coven may process together in silence, or only HPS and HP may go.)

(At the crossroads:)

HPS (places the offerings, pours the remaining wine libation): "Hekate, this is yours. For you and for those who walk with you."

(HPS and all present turn around and walk away without looking back.)

Note: If a crossroads is not available, offerings may be placed at the threshold of the building and later composted. A charitable donation of food or money to a food bank is a widely practiced modern Deipnon offering and is encouraged for all participants.

Post-Ritual:

Invitation to talk, explore the altar, ask questions, share food (separate from the Deipnon offerings), etc.

Notes for the Ritual Leaders:

Instruction to CM: You are the heartbeat. Begin each chant softly. Let the coven find it. Never force volume. Let it build organically. When it needs to end, let it thin — don't cut it. The chant is the thread Hekate follows into the circle.

HPS and HP are the primary liturgists. They do not break role.
CM Ritualist (1–2 people) handles: bell, broomstick, circle casting/opening, chant initiation, physical logistics (distributing paper, managing the offering platter, etc.)
4 Quarter Callers can be designated from the coven, but in this version the quarters are called by HPSand HP to maintain the Water/Earth and Air/Fire assignment. To delegate, assign Water and Earth quarters to HPS-aligned members, and Air and Fire quarters HP-aligned members.
Remaining coven members: Their primary role is to sustain the chant, participate in the sweepings/releases, and hold the energy. With 20+ people, the chant should be powerful.

Timing: The dark moon on May 16, 2026 is exact at 1:01 PM PDT. Begin the ritual after sundown on Friday, May 15 or Saturday, May 16 — either is appropriate. The liminal evening of the 15th-into-16th is most traditionally aligned.
The "do not look back" rule is ancient and should be announced clearly before the procession. It is both practical theater and genuine spiritual hygiene.
With 20+ people, the sweepings/release portion will take time. Plan 2–3 minutes per person. Soft drumming/chanting keeps the energy sustained.
The Deipnon offerings are NOT eaten by the coven. They are for Hekate and the dead. Keep a separate set of cakes and wine for the Cakes and Wine ceremony.
Coven members should be asked in advance to bring their home sweepings (altar ash, incense stubs, candlewax, dust from thresholds) in a small bag.
