Some books feel less like discoveries than like reunions with something long missed. The Secrets of Albertus Magnus is one such volume — a treasure of the early printed tradition, bringing to light one of the most enchanting compendiums of natural magic from the early modern world. A joyful and worthy addition to Troy Books’ growing catalogue of foundational historic texts, it speaks across the ages with the same wonder it has always inspired.
A cornerstone of medieval natural magic, The Secrets of Albertus Magnus gathers together a treasury of occult knowledge concerning the hidden virtues of herbs, stones, beasts, and the celestial powers that govern their operation. Long attributed to the great scholastic philosopher Albertus Magnus, this remarkable compendium stands within the tradition of the libri secretorum — books of wonders that reveal the subtle correspondences binding the natural and astral worlds.
Within its pages are found the marvellous properties of common plants and rare roots, the occult powers of gemstones and metals, the curious virtues of birds and beasts, and the influence of the seven planets upon the generation and destiny of all living things. Rooted in medieval natural philosophy and enriched by the lore of astrology and sympathetic magic, the text offers a vivid window into the learned magic of the early modern period, where science, medicine, and enchantment were yet entwined.
Part herbal, part lapidary, part bestiary, and part planetary manual, this enduring freshly typeset work preserves a vision of a cosmos alive with hidden forces, awaiting the discerning practitioner who knows the proper times, signs, and correspondences by which nature’s secrets may be unlocked.
Fully documented, including over ninety illustrations, this book gives in depth instruction into the techniques of practical Traditional Witchcraft.
Troy Books are affiliated with the famous Witchcraft Museum in Boscastle, Cornwall, UK! Paul is British and his family name is Cornish and he has a deep love of Cornwall, its folklore, mysticism and magick. As a practitioner of Traditional Witchcraft, Paul was determined to carry Troy Books when he opened Artes and Craft with his wife Pat. He begged Troy Books to allow him to import them to the USA, which they did. Artes And Craft was the FIRST USA witchcraft and Wicca retailer to carry them. They are hugely important books, fluff free and scholarly, on pre-wicca cottage witchcraft, traditional cunning witchcraft and grimoire magick. Highly recommended!
