At last…. It was just a matter of time… After years of promising we FINALLY are offering our own highly viable belladonna aka deadly nightshade seeds to our witchcraft supplies online store for the position path and baneful witchcraft and herbalism!
These are sun dried in our atrium NOT dried in a dehydrator… They are from the berries from our famous witches poison garden, Paul fusses over his belladonna all season long… Growing babies… Fertilizing and spraying the mature plants to protect against fungus and bugs…
Unlike seeds from other wicca supplies online stores and witchcraft supplies stores, these are highly viable as we grow them ourselves, dry them naturally and they are fresh!
The presentation tin contains a packet of at least 100 seeds plus instructions… The instructions are also repeated below…
INSTRUCTIONS FOR GROWTH
Belladonna is a perennial. In cold climates it will die back to the roots every winter. First year plants achieve about 2-3 feet in height and might produce berries. 2nd year plants will grow to 4 or so feet high and flower and fruit all season long. Mature 3 year plus plants will grow to about 6 feet high. Flowering will start early June with berries being ripe end July. Flowers and fruit will be abundant until the first frost kills the above ground part of the plant. ALL PARTS OF THE PLANT ARE EXTREMELY TOXIC! IT IS CALLED DEADLY NIGHTSHADE FOR A REASON!!! It is safe to handle when dried but never consume it.
Each berry produces approximately 50 seeds. Our packs have the seeds from TWO BERRIES – so will be 80-120 seeds AT LEAST! Larger berries can hold over 100 seeds so you are probably getting closer to 200 per pack. They were dried naturally in our sunroom, NOT dehydrated in an electric dryer! Therefore the seeds are very viable.
ALL the tropane alkaloid family, of which Belladonna, Henbane, Mandrake are part of, are DIFFICULT to grow… We famously have a poison farm of over 150 mature belladonna plants, and we have become experts at growing these powerful witchy plants. The plant has evolved for its seeds to lie dormant for years as a survival tactic… Therefore very few will grow when germinated the first time. Typically less than 20% will sprout. Our very viable seeds though will do well with a higher-than-average germination rate IF you follow the instructions! Never give up on them either – seeds that do not germinate this year might germinate next year, or the year after, or the year after that!!!
These seeds require COLD STRATIFICATION! This mimics the natural conditions of winter and spring. The seeds contain natural anti-germination chemicals to stop them all germinating in the same spring. These chemicals are slowly washed away with snow and rain in nature – and we must replicate this process. The seeds also need the freezing and thawing of winter and spring to be replicated.
Take a couple of sheets of clean paper kitchen towel. Fold them into an oblong with a long and short side. Wet the paper so it is damp/wet. Sprinkle the seeds in the middle of the oblong and fold across the short side. Fold the paper towel over so the seeds are all safe in the middle with paper towel on both sides of them. Get a sandwich sized zip lock baggie and put the paper towel with seeds inside. DO NOT ZIP CLOSE THE BAG – the seeds need air or will die! Put the open baggie in the fridge for a week. Then transfer it to the freezer for a few days. Then back to the fridge until it defrosts. This replicates the cycle of freezing and thawing in nature! Then take the bag and add clean fresh water… Keep gently squeezing the paper towel inside the baggie – the idea is to “wash” the seeds with fresh water and gently squeezing the towel will move the water around the seeds washing away the anti-germination chemicals. BE GENTLE… You don’t want to crush the seeds! Gently squeeze out the excess water… Then put it back in the fridge and repeat the two weekly Fridge->Freezer->DefrostàWash cycle just described over and over. For best results start this process on the winter solstice and repeat until the spring equinox. However our seeds are very viable, and you should get good results with only 2 or 3 cycles if you are in a hurry!
After cold stratification is complete, sow the seeds in seed trays or starter pots with moist seed starting soil. Cover them lightly (no more than a quarter inch) with seed starting soil. Pat down and water. Put them in a warm dry place away from direct light… A spare bedroom near a window is ideal. Mist or lightly water them every three or so days. The seeds will start to germinate in a week. As said, they take their time and they will continue to sprout for 6-8 weeks…
Once they have produced 4-6 leaves transfer them to a pot outside. They do NOT like full sun. Ours love being planted in the shade of trees, so they get morning and late afternoon sun but do not get noon time full sun. Planting in a medium-to-large pot is a good idea for the first season. We transfer our new plants into the earth in FALL/AUTUMN before the first frost.
Like all the nightshades, slugs and other bugs love them AS DOES blight and fungal infections… So spray second year plants with bug spray and an anti-fungal agent if they need it. Fertilizer them also monthly in Spring and Summer if you want tall abundant plants that flower and fruit all summer long!
POISON - NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! We accept no liability for anyone who consumes this plant or gives it to others to consume.
This is REAL European Deadly Nightshade for traditional witchcraft supplies - it is NOT American Nightshade which is not the same plant at all!
We have to assume you know traditional witchcraft and know the risks and the dangers of this poisonous plant. We ask that you are safe and careful. We trust you and love you and want you to remain here with us.
